Summer Daze

As my eyes slowly open, I take a few glances out the window to be awake. The start to a new day begins. The birds are singing, the sun is shining bright and the day begins with a smile. As I lean over with a big stretch, followed by a yawn, I quote my daily affirmation. As I roll out of bed and get the kids up, we gather around the breakfast table and decide on what to do with our day. While the water streams into the kettle for our morning tea and I start to cook a hearty breakfast for the family. Nothing beats a nutritious breakfast to get that energy flowing to have a productive day. As we eat our breakfast we discussed what fun things to do and we decided to hit up.our camp for the weekend. As we wrap up breakfast we hurry to pack our things to head out to the lake.

The drive into camp road is probably one of the best smells out there. Well, for me it is. It’s the combination of the crisp air, the mildew from the grass, the musky trees and the smell of the briny water. As we pull up to our campsite and as I get out I notice the dirt road has left a filthy film of muck on my car, and then the kids all run out of the car with excitement as they get to see all their friends once again.

As we start to unload the car and put away the groceries, the kids decided they wanted something to snack on before we hit the lake. With the kids scrambling around to make food I decided to start the fire for the day. Nothing too big during the day as we will be at the beach doing our thing but just enough to create coals to cook our food on the grill for dinner.

We finally get everything put away and everyone settled, we definitely know it’s going to be a full day of memories. Just the thought of the sand squishing between our toes, the waves hitting our skin and our hair tossed up in a messy bun. I grab my beach bag, making sure it has our water, snacks and some sunscreen, and toss it over my left shoulder. Now that we have everything ready to go we head to the car again as we have to strap the kayak down before heading to the lake. Nothing more refreshing than the natural vitamin D and some minerals to replenish the skins natural beauty.

As we get to the beach, we all rush to get the kayaks off the vehicles so we can start the day. As our kayaks hit the water, we all hop in and we start paddling our way towards the point of the lake. Finally, the smell of that summer air hitting our lungs, the sound of the water flowing beneath the kayak and nonetheless the breathtaking view. Nothing more rejuvenating then the purest form of nature.

As we spend hours on the lake paddling through the waves from the other motor crafts, we start to head back to shore. As we get there we take a quick dip to refresh our skin from the crispy sun rays. Once we get out of the lake with the water dripping down our skin, we decide to sit on our towels and mingle for a bit together. With the sun drying the water off our swimsuits, we crack a cold drink open to quench our thirst. As time goes by we decide to wrap up our beach time and head back to the trailers.

The fire is still crackling and the evening rolls around. Time to scrape down the grill that hangs over the fire pit to start dinner. The music is playing in the background and a cold beer in hand. Time to just sit back, relax and enjoy the evening. With the food cooking now is a good time to open up a book and enjoy a journey. The depth of a book could be more natural and life living than you can expect. The words, the characters but the vibes you get from the smallest details at times can make you feel more alive and part of the story itself. There’s this quote that I love…

“ I love the way that each book — any book — is its own journey. You open it, and off you go…” ~ Sharon Creech

As the sun starts to go down and the mist rolls in, the lake is on a mission to empower the stillness of the night. This is were the animals lead to drink and find their feed. Nature has taken over and the late night has fallen. In the deep woods were we roam and the water has flown. The silence has taken over the power of the day. Not a soul in sight and yet we hear the depth of the voice….

Every waking day reminds me on how grateful I am for the things I have in life. People say its the smaller things in life but they expect the bigger things. The good mornings, the roof over your head, the food on the table, the people in your life… You should just be happy to have what you have in life. Not everything is replaceable especially the people in your life.
